Blue Fantasy Reveal Day

Once again another reveal day has arrived. It started back in June when I signed up for the challenge on Lisa's Pine Ridge Treasures Facebook Page.

Here is the wonderful selection of beads that I received from Lisa. It included sea glass, rondelles, gemstones and brass beads and findings.

I posted last month about using some of the lampwork beads that I had in my stash as focals for two of my creations.

For this first one I used the gemstones (not sure what they are), rondelles and large white pearls I had purchased during a recent destash event.

For this second one I used the wavy blue sea glass, brass beads and white barrel sea glass I also got during another of Lisa's destash events. I also used the toggle for the challenge kit.

The last item that I created from the kit used the three large holed freeform beads. I really wanted to do something different with these. I played with making a beaded bail but could not get it to work the way I would like. Next I played with connecting them with some brass chain that I had in my stash. Again I did not like the way it was working, the chain was too chunky.

I used the design idea from connecting with the chain but with a finer chain. Here is used a silver tone chain to create a Y-shaped necklace with all three of the beads.

I still have beads left which will be added to my stash, but that is all for now.

Turtle Box

It started back in July with pictures of the boxes posted by Julia Pretl on her Facebook page with the message that the patterns would be available soon.

Later she posted a link to her website once they were available. I quickly added them to my collection. Then I had to decide would I use Julia's colours or my own. I looked thru my delica stash and then made a trip to fav bead store. Purchased enough beads (I hope to make all three).

Once I had finished some of my unfinished projects and up coming challenge pieces I was able to look at starting one of the boxes. I decided to start with the medium turtle box is the colours Julia used.

I got to the point in the base where Julia suggests attaching the head and the feet. My problem was that I did not have a crystal for the head in the suggested size (15 mm). So I put the base aside and started on the shell lid.

As I was working on the shell I thought about other things that I could use for the head and feet. I decided to look in my drawer full of lampwork beads to see if anything would work. I found a wonderful bead that has some of the browns in it. I also had some teardrop beads from Unicorne Beads that would work for feet.

So it was back to the base to attach the head with a spacer from Unicorne for the neck. I had to play with what bead to use for the turn around. A simple seed bead was too small, crystal did not sit in place the way I would like, so I used a drop bead. Looks like a nose on the turtle.

Once the head and feet were attached I completed the base. I love using Julia's new method for starting the hem. It is much easier to get the beads on the inside of the box.

With the base completed it was back to the shell lid. This was a challenge as it has to be worked in such a way that it will accomodate the head. I had to undo a row and a half once I realized that I had misread the instructions.

I started the box on August 24 and finished it last night (August 29).  The next two should go a bit smoother now that I have a better understanding of the design. Just need to find heads for a small and large turtle. I have enough of the tear drops to use for feet.

Blue Fantasy Preview

 

Back at the beginning of the summer of signed up for yet another of Lisa Lodge's wonderful blog hop challenges. This one called to me as it was based on one of my favourite colours - Blue!

We each received a wonderful selection of blue beads along with plated metal beads and findings. The challenge create something wonderful. Here is the amazing mix of beads that arrived in my mailbox earlier in the summer.

I decided to start by looking in my stash on art beads know that I likely had some beads that could be the focal for a necklace or two.

The first I found was the lampwork bead with a number of different shades of blue. I am pairing with two of the various shades of blue in the kit from Lisa. I added accents beads from my stash.

I also found this wonderful soft blue bead. It works well with some of the seaglass and the brass beads.

Bead Soup Blog Party #8 - It is Reveal Day!

One week later than originally scheduled ... it is finally Reveal Day!

I have had my pieces finished for awhile. I have even worn them to work and a family gathering. I am pleased with my designs, but might tweak them for weariblity.

Here is what I was sent by my wonderful partner and fellow Canadian Deborah Read.

I used the cubes, teal lampwork beads, copper cresent, mixed metal beads, copper rings and toggle. I added copper seed beads, wavy discs, end cones, toggle and Conso thread.

I wanted to see if I could continue my recent fascination with Kumihimo using the cube beads. I knew that I would need to test the workablity of the cubes. I did a quick test using the cubes and size 8 seed beads.

This worked well, but it needed a large seed bead. I was able to find some amazing copper metal seed beads in size 6.

With two lengths of braiding done with cubes and copper beads I connected them together with the etched copper crescent (from the soup), copper seed beads, wavy discs and some of the teal lampwork beads (also from the soup).

I used a basic copper toggle to finish this necklace. I have worn it a few times. I like the drape of the focal but it might look better if it was perfectly straight. Will have to look for a harden piece of copper to use.

I decided to use the uncoloured etched toggle that was included in the soup along with most of the remaining teal lampwork and an assortment of the various metal beads included to make a co-ordinating bracelet.

That was everything that I had finished in time for the original reveal day of May 3. With the postponement I was able to do this one other design.

I use a few of the ocher and frosted white lampwork beads with this new earring findings I was sent from John Bead. These findings are interchangeable. You can change out the beads. For now they have the lampwork and a couple of crystals each.

Lampwork & Clay Blog Hop Reveal Day

Wow, the day has finally arrived. I signed up for this blog hop back at the beginning of June. Hosted by Lisa Lodge of Pine Ridge Treasure the challenge was to make something with the clay or lampwork beads that Lisa sent to you.

Here are the beads that I received back in mid-June. Here is my post about the arrival of the beads. These lovely lampwork beads are by Marcia Seever of ShaZazzGlass. I love the various shades of purple in the swirls. There is also a hint of green in the centre beads.

I had the beads pulled together for Julia Pretl's Springtime box. With a little tweaking of the colours I was able to work the centre lampwork bead into the design.

I used a headpin, Swarovski crystal and the lampwork bead to make the finial. A plastic earring stopper holds it in place.

Next challenge, what to do with the remaining 6 beads. Tried a few layouts for a bracelet with beads in my stash, but I didn't like any of them. I decided to play with some chain loops to make earrings. I like how the sizes work in the design.

Once again I have worked both within my comfort zone and beyond when doing a challenge.

Beader Hoarders Blog Hop - Reveal

Do you have a few or some or maybe a drawer full of amazing beads that you have collected but not used. Well this blog hop is all about get ourselves in gear and making something fabulous with at least a few of the beads in our hoard collection.

I have four sets of beads that I have worked with to share with you. Some are beads I have had a long time and others are more recent purchases.

These lampwork beads by Jennifer Tough, have been in my collection for a long time. They were in small Swarovski tin with some crystals waiting to be made into something wonderful. The dotted beads have been combined with crystals and large round clear beads to make a bracelet. I have made a simple pendant with the heart. I added little Swarovski butterfly crystal earrings to complete the set.

Here are some polymer clay beads by Jessica Greschner. I have used some of her beads in another necklace back in 2010. Here is have combined these purple swirl beads with Swarovski crystals, pearls, purple round glass beads and some fun little "pot scrubber" silver spacers.

Now some more recent purchases. These lampwork beads are by Lucie Kovarova-Weir. The trio of ladybugs are stacked to make a simple pendant. The little spacer beads are suspended on loops of chain to make dangle earrings. I think that my niece Elizabeth might like the ladybug pendant.

These are the most recently purchased beads. I got these at Beadfx but I am not sure who made them (will check when I stop by the store later today - Update these beads are by Carol Cooper.). Here I have added Swarovski crystals and pearls with some copper daisy spacers. This will be a great piece for the fall.

It was fun to look at the many different beads that I have collected over the years. I hope to work more of them into some upcoming projects.
